Twists and Turns

I love Sandra Bucklund's knitted and crocheted designs. They’re so innovative and a great change from the modern fashion we mostly see today. You can clearly see the muscular and skeletal references to the body, which accent the silhouette. She says she approaches fashion more like a sculptor than a tailor, which is really evident in her work. The hand crafted approach is also significant as it allows for more experimentation with materials and techniques. I admire the entwining of art and craft with fashion.

Prints Charming

Fun, colourful and environmentally friendly! I recently spotted this fab chandelier in Liberty's 'Prints Charming' exhibition and was eager to find out more! Lucy Renshaw works with recycled fabrics and objects to produce quirky and imaginative interior products. She combines a range of techniques including embroidery and screen printing and says she deliberately sets out to tackle environmental issues. A great source of inspiration for my next project, in which I’d really like to combine screen printing with my love of found and second hand objects.

The Princess and The Pea

After watching Charlie and Lola this morning, I couldn't resist posting more of Lauren Child's work. My favourites are the tiny models she made for her book The Princess and the Pea. This set me on a roll researching many of the different ways people have interpreted this traditional fairytale.

Fashion of the 20th Century!?

I began to fill in my 2010 calendar today, which was a gift from my sister. It is full of fantastic fashion images, some stylish and classy, some cutting edge and innovative and some just hilariously funny. In a way I can't wait for the year to be over to I can rip them out and get them pinned up on my wall! Here are some of my favourites...

The Magic of MC Escher

Another of my Christmas gifts, which explores the illusionary world of MC Escher by L. Locher W.F Veldhuysen. The images in this book are great and they give a hint as to how his tessellating and changing patterns were created. Amazing source of inspiration for my next project!

2010 Dreams...

A very Happy New Year to everyone! I have been having a think about a few things I'd like to achieve this year and looking back at what I achieved in 2009. This time last year I was preparing to make my way up to Glasgow to gain experience working with Timorous Beasties! So I am going to begin 2010 with some of my favourite of their screen printed designs - they never fail to impress!
