Finn Juhl.

Pleased my prized Finn Juhl poster is finally up on the wall! I'm never going to be able to afford my much loved sofa, so this is as close as I can get. It sits nicely beside my 'Wonderful Copenhagen' poster.

Neat Rows and Collections.

an
Much of my inspiration comes from the cummulative beauty of every day objects and the unintentional organisation of sed objects. So I find the work of Lisa Milroy really interesting and can connect with her keen eye for collecting as well as the order and organisation in their presentation.

Box Full of Suprises.

I have been doing a little research on boxes, what people put in them and the suprises that looking inside can hold. This is a really cute example by Thundercut.

Motion and Stills.

It all started from a kindergarten finger painting class... apparently!
These exciting photos recording the disassembly of objects is by Todd McLellan. I really like the way they show the importance of the internal workings of these objects and emphasise the parts we don't usually see.

Pin Point Patterns.

Shannon Rankin's intricately patterned installations are a feast for the eyes! She explores the relationship between physical place and intangible experience through the language of maps. Really beautiful!

Mitchell Johnson

Love the flat blocks of colour and clarity of line in these paintings by Mitchell Johnson.

"I never look for beautiful vistas or quintessential moments, I stop when a view or series of colors and shapes grabs me."

Sabine Finkenauer drawings and paintings are bold, colourful and somewhat comforting in their abstract representation of homes and interiors!

ISAK: Beautiful Happy Things

I love the whole ethos of ISAK Design, a company created by Scandinavian designer Sandra Isaksson and inspired by her heritage and travels...

'ISAK was born from a love of family and friends; these are the most important things to us. Our goal is to make the world a better place. We take everyday objects and add some beauty and happiness.'

An injection of colour and humour make Isaksson's illustrations irresistible and I can't help but smile every time I see them. I was delighted that the Inger and Ollie print was waiting for me on my arrival back in the UK. I can't wait to get it framed and up on the wall! Purchase and see more of these beautiful products via her shop, website and blog!

Good-Man!

Build it up to knock it down sculptures by Miller Goodman. I saw these great nostalgic works at Tent London in September and like in my last collection I plan to use a similar process to construct my new textile designs.

Japanese Batik

Another day of our trip to Kyoto was spent at Roketsu where we took part in a traditional Japanese batik workshop. This was run by a mother and son team who I guess had been working with and perfecting this techniques their whole lives! We got by with basic English and demonstrations of what we had to do, they even showed us how they produce lengths of fabric for kimonos. It was an amazing experience where we each produced our own batik sample to take home! Great day!

Akihiko Izukura

While on our travels in Kyoto we took a trip to the factory of textile artist and designer Akihiko Izukura. Recently he worked with Nottingham Trent University to present the captivating exhibition Life in Colours. His work is focused around natural dyes and a zero waste concept. We were lucky enough to be shown around the dyeing studios and experience the wonderful sights and smells of the cloves and cinnamon used for dyeing, along with many other natural ingredients. We then slipped our shoes off and were taken up to the studio where we could watch the yarns being spun and woven into wonderful traditional obi's. It was a great experience to see everything being made first hand and his work is a great example of how sustainable design practice can be combined with contemporary craft.

Bedroom in Arles.

A visit to Tokyo National Arts Centre to see Van Gogh: The Adventure of Becoming an Artist, rekindled my appreciation for the colour and life in Van Gogh's works. My favourite is Bedroom in Arles.
