What a find! I came across this vintage tiger and deer wallpaper at my local antiques emporium. The detail and colour is absolutley amazing. I near on have a whole roll to play with so I am after the perfect wall in which to paper it to! I am told that this wonderful wallpaper is by Sanderson but after lots of researching I can't seem to find any more information about it. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them...

I'm in the process of organising a photoshoot to showcase my latest designs, so have been gathering inspiration and styling ideas that capture a balance between contemporary playfullness and crafted tradition. I am really liking the quirky elements within these photos by BDDW. The cute animal additions and portraits add a lovely personal quality to the photos, whilst the furniture still remains the focus of the image. Luckily I already have plenty of flea market finds I can use in the styling! No problemo!

Loving the new collection by ffiXXed, who have collaborated with New York based artist Ester Partegas to produce these great digital prints. "Ester has contributed a series of collages constructed from the in-between spaces torn from the graphic landscape of magazine pages. These pieces are reconfigured to generate new forms, which like the ffiXXed collection try to find space for a more open and fluid negotiation of consumer culture." The shirt is my fave!

It was really good to spend the day in the print room again yesterday. I was mainly prepping up for a 5 metre length that I will be printing next week but managed to squeeze in a few test prints too. On the face of it, this seems quite a simple design but it's not until you get to this stage that you realise how complex it is. Fingers crossed I can pull it off!

I spent last weekend zooming around Milan in a quest to see as much of the Funiture Fair as possible and experience the sights and sounds of the city in a total of 48 hours. The fair itself was so inspiring but to begin with here is just a taste of the Italian culture we soaked up along the way... From the magnificent Duomo and wonderful architecture and stumbling upon a lovely authentic flea market! And despite my aching shoulders, blistered feet and lack of sleep I loved every minute of it! I will be back!

I have been doing a little research into alternative upholstery and remebered these from a few years back. The Mummy chair by Peter Traag is wrapped using 55 metres of elasticated polyester ribbon and is a great way to personalise and update tired furniture. My dedicated post for Mother's day! ♡ xx

The styling of this shoot is weird and wonderful, but there is something really beautiful about these images. I think it is the way Charlotte Taylor uses traditional references and the clash of many cultural influences. This combined with the bold quirky prints and jewel like colours means sometimes more is more!

Laser Cut Leathers

Really good to see how other designers are using laser-cut leather within their work. These sculptural statement pieces are by Yasmin Siddiqui. I love the utilisation of the leather - outlines become just as important as the layered cutout pieces. This is a technique I have been using in my work in order to try and get the most out of the material and I have found that often it is the parts that were intending to be left overs that become the most interesting! These images are so beautiful I had to post them extra large so you can see all the intricate detail. Felicity Brown hand dyes and pleates these wonderful creations giving them volume and energy and making each totally unique. I love her muse: "A leading lady in an old black and white film". I'm sad to say I'm a bit behind the times with this post as this was Felicity's first collection from A/W 2010. Keep an eye out for her new collection of tshirts right here and I will post more about her new feast of a collection shortly!

This lovely little image landed in my inbox the other day and was an instant cheer me up in my moment of 'designers block'. This little creature is called Sampson and is by design duo James Plumb. He could definitly be permanent fixture in my home and would make up slightly for not being able to have my own puppy. On further investigation I realised they were the creators of my favourite piece at the 'Homeworks' exhibition that I took part in last year. I think the Bambi Table was secretly made for me...it combines my love of upcycling furniture with my vintage collection of Bambis. Yes please, I will take it!

I created my own wooden paperclips. I found this gave me more flexibility when manipulating and exploring patterns and it also enables me to add my own colour palettes, whilst maintaining three dimensional qualities of metal paperclips. The wood gives them a much more natural and handmade feel.

My House.

While exploring the possibilities of the cube and transition between 2d and 3d form, I also want to draw on my own personal environment and space. I have been creating nets, that become more complex and organic the more they are deconstructed and reformed. Here I have begun to add simple geometric shapes onto each side of the cube reflecting the shapes of my house. These would never be seen in the below formation unless there were 6 cubes. I like how the elements are abstracted in the 2d form and the way it forms a game as you try to reconstruct the image.

I am currently absorbed in a book from our local library called Home by Julie Myerson. It's a biography about the history of a house, the people who lived in it and the different relationships people form with their personal space. Ever since I started reading it I have been thinking about my home and its history. So on my return home this weekend I began to question my dad! My parents have kept in touch with the son of the man who owned our house previous to us and he already had details regarding the previous owners from 1916 when it was built, up to 1982, when my parents bought it. By chance, as I was inspecting the details of the documents my dad had presented to me our phone began to ring and who should it be but Edward, who lived in the house for 34 years before us! So today we got the chance to meet Edward, who visited our home, that used to be his home. We showed him around and he recalled the happy times he spent in the house with his sister and mum and dad. He also brought these photos to show us. It is funny how you don't really think about how you are just a small part of a house's history. I have lived in this house my whole life and consider it to be ours, but it belonged to someone else long before I was ever around, it has a whole secret history I am waiting to discover!

Last night we were treated to a trip to the Crucible Theatre to see Me and My Girl. Star of the show Daniel Crossley put in an awesome performance as Bill Snibson.
